The Peace Dollar is a historic U.S. silver coin first issued in 1921 to commemorate the restoration of peace following World War I. Designed by sculptor Anthony de Francisci, the obverse features a striking portrait of Lady Liberty, modeled after his wife, Teresa. The reverse depicts a bald eagle resting on a mountaintop, holding an olive branch above the word “PEACE.”

Original Peace Dollars were minted from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. Each coin has a face value of one dollar and is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper. The U.S. Mint revived the design in 2021 as a modern collectible containing 99.9% pure silver. Admired for its symbolism, Art Deco styling, and historical significance, the Peace Dollar remains a favorite among collectors.
